Marketing Cast - How To Grow Your Email Marketing List

In the first of a series of weekly marketing casts,  David Meerman Scott (Marketer in Residence at our partner HubSpot) provides some valuable advice on growing your email marketing list.

Here are David's top tips for growing your email marketing list:

1. Keep track of unsubscriptions

An opt-in email list is a valuable marketing asset, but more importantly it's people giving you permission to communicate with them.

What can be just as important (or even more important) than measuring your new subscribe rate is measuring your unsubscribe rate.

That way you judge whether the emails you are sending out are relevant and interesting to your subscribers or not.

2. Always provide value

Make sure you are providing value in every single email you send out.  Even when you are promoting one of your products or service.

In fact, David recommends sending a promotional email at the most every tenth email.  The rest of the time provide information of value to your email subscribers - even if it is content not on your website.

3. Focus on sharing

By sharing information of value with your email list, they are more likely to share that information within their social networks.

Getting in the habit of sharing increasing the likelihood that your blog, website or email list is in turn shared to other people who may be interested in the products or services you provide.

Enjoy!
